Terms of Business

Our mission is to provide Cricket Umpires and Scorers (and their instructors and other officials of the game) with everything that they need to perform their duties effeiently for the benefit of the excellent game of cricket in general.   In some cases, this is done better by signposting to other suppliers which we freely do.

1.   We often achieve same day despatch but only promise to despatch within one week (except for trousers, puddlemaster and a few other unusual items).   In all cases of delay, we will notify you within that timescale.   If you hear nothing within two weeks (in UK) or four weeks (overseas), please do not hesitate to remind us so that we can investigate promptly with postal authorities..

2    Unless otherwise agreed, despatch will be by cheapest method available (normally Royal Mail, Parcel Force Economy / Printed Paper Rates).

3    In the event of any complaint, please contact us BEFORE returning the item .   [eg in the case of misprinted books, we may only ask you to return a particular part of the book to save postage].   We will always replace / refund faulty goods.   Within Europe, we will refund in full against perfect items that you discover do not meet your needs.   In all cases, please notify us within ten days of receipt.    These conditions in no way reduce your statutory rights as a consumer under English Law.   When requested, refunds will be made through Click & Build or by Sterling Cheque, gerenally within two weeks of the receipt of returned goods.

4    Payment through Click & Build is subject to gaurantees and conditions from World Pay.   Payment via Luna Credit and cheques will not be cashed until some goods have been despatched (except for certain special pre-publication discount offers).   Ownership of goods will only pass to the customer after cleared funds have been received in full.

5    Data Protection:   We do not pass you name and address on to any other company unless specifically requested by you.   We do not process lists of names and addresses mechanically.   Indeed we do not even keep lists for postal mailshots except where specifically requested (eg for secondhand items when they become available or for annual offers of Wisden's Almanack).

6.   You may opt in to our email list by sending a blank email to subscribe-acumen@listbot.com, which we use to send general news items to umpires, scorers and others as well as details of our new products or offers.   This consists primarily of email addresses, which are not disclosed to third parties, and we do not require any other personal details.   Your address is held on an independent bureau service www.listbot.com where you can access and amend your own details.   You may unsubscribe by sending an email from your same personal mailbox to unsubscribe-acumen@listbot.com

7    You are contracting with Puddlemaster Ltd of Rushton House, Nantwich Road, Audley, Stoke-on-Trent, ST7 8DL.   We are registered as an English company 218 2447, VAT 319 3005 84, Data Protection B0022097, World Pay 5006996.   We have been trading as Acumen Books since 1977 when David Whiley pointed out the significant relationship to Association of Cricket U mpires.   However we are run independently of ACU&S although we do have particular commercial contarcts to buy and/or sell certain goods, some with royalty payments associated.

8.   In the first instance any complaints should be made to our manager, Val Bowers.   Serious complaints should be referred to our Managing Director, Colin Pearson.
