ROTARY WIN! - Thanks to you

last year we collected the largest amount per member in this District towards our Foundation Charity - which sponsors many projects including student exchange and overseas relief - also Polio Eradication about which you will hear more next year.   We also collected the second highest total in the District beating all but one of several larger clubs. In August 2002, we competed in World in Bloom for the fourth time, now twinned with Boissevain, Manitoba http://www.boissevain.ca/ - or boissevain.htm for my collection of links into their area.   These results are due in early October
We have also been judged in Best Kept Village in Staffordshire and Britain in Bloom.

I am pleased to report that our rural villages showed some of the highest turnouts in the local elections held on Thursday 2nd May 2002.

   Audley & Bignall End 41.2% elected Boden, Cornes, Wemyss
   Halmerend 44.2% Becket, Webb
   Madeley 40.7% Howells, Sinnott
   Talke 35.8% Amos, Slater
   Silverdale 27.7% Leech, Maddox
   Chesterton 23.0% Billington, Caddy, Phillips

Newcastle Council consists of 29 Labour, 10 Conservative, 18 Liberal Democrats (as at 02:01 on 03/05/02 but there is a by-election pending
